Operating the chain saw
1. Grasp the front and rear Handles with both hands. Always
grip the handle with the thumb and fingers encircling the
handle as show above.
2. Take your foot off the rear handle and lift the chain saw to
work level.
To prevent serious injury and death from
kickback: Do not touch the tip of the guide bar to any object.
3. When the chain saw reaches full speed, begin cutting with
a light, downward pressure against the bottom-center
section of the saw chain. Allow the saw chain to cut at its
own rate. Applying too much pressure can damage the tool.
When cutting loose, round, wood stock, make sure to place the wood stock in a
sawhorse, cradle or use a timberjack (not included) to avoid grabbing and throw back.
4. When finished cutting, release the trigger switch and turn off the power switch.
5. Wait for the saw to come to a complete stop before laying it down.
6. When the saw is cooled completely, cover the guide bar with the guide bar cover sheath.
7. After use, to prevent accidents, turn off the engine, wait for the engine to cool, then
disconnect its spark plug wire after use. Clean external parts with clean cloth, then store the
equipment out of children’s reach, according to the storage instructions in this manual.
Basic felling, limbing, and bucking cut techniques
Felling
1. When felling a tree, make sure the tree is not felled in a manner that would endanger any
person, strike any utility line or cause any property damage. Before felling is started,
consider the natural lean of the tree, the location of larger branches and the wind direction
to judge which way the tree will fall. The chain saw operator should keep on the uphill side
of the terrain as the tree will likely roll or slide downhill after it is felled.
2. A retreat path should be planned and cleared as necessary
before cuts are started. The retreat path should extend
back and diagonally to the rear of the expected line of fall.
3. Make sure to remove dirt, stones, loose bark, nails,
staples, wire, and other foreign objects from the tree
where the cuts are to be made.
4. When making a notching undercut, make the notch 1/3
the diameter of the tree, perpendicular to the direction of
the fall. Make the lower horizontal notching cut first. This
will help to avoid pinching of either the saw chain or the
guide bar when the second notch is being made.
