7. Connections

Good connections require a skilled operator. The most common cause of measurement error is
bad connections. The following procedures illustrate how to make good connections.
The wearing of protective gloves is strongly recommended for every single connection. Even the
smallest amount of skin lipids/particles that gets into the connector interface can have a strong
influence on the measurements and even make them unusable.

Adapting Test Ports

The calibration kit comes with two RPC-2.92 to SMP adapters to adapt the test port of the VNA
or the 2.92 mm test port cable to SMP interfaces.

How to connect

Pick up the calibration standard. Make sure that the test port cable and the calibration standard are
aligned with each other. Carefully guide it to the test port cable until you are fully centred and you
feel the male and female SMP connectors touching each other. Now the force can be gradually in-
creased until the SMP connection snaps into place.

The test port cable and the calibration standard
are aligned with each other.

The test port cable and the calibration standard
are not aligned with each other. A strong me-
chanical stress will be caused.
