2.2 Identifying Cable Faults
One of the basic measurement tasks for the R&S ZVH is to find cable faults with the
distance-to-fault measurement.
Test setup
The test setup requires an R&S ZVH, an RF cable (for example R&S FSH-Z320) and a
calibration standard (for example R&S FSH-Z28 or R&S FSH-Z29).

Test cable (DUT)
► For measurements on DUTs that require an external voltage supply (for example
power amplifiers), connect the supply voltage from a suitable AC power supply to
the BIAS PORT 1 input.
► Connect the RF test cable to the RF input of the R&S ZVH.
You should use the RF cable. Otherwise, measurement results may be invalid.
Starting the measurement
► Press the MODE key.
► Press the "Antenna & Cable Test" softkey.
By default, the R&S ZVH shows the magnitude of the reflection (S11). You can also
measure the distance to fault, the transmission or the cable loss.
► Press the MEAS key.
► Press the "Distance-to-Fault" softkey.
The R&S ZVH starts the distance-to-fault measurement.
