Preparation
Set up a small shop with the fruit and vegetables
that appear on the barcode cards and provide some
shopping baskets.
Place the card with the barcode near the appropriate
fruit and vegetables.
Install the app on the iPad.
You can use the Rolf iPad Shopper app three ways:
•
as a ‘normal iPad cash register’
for the shop in
the classroom
•
as a Rolf iPad barcode scanner cash register,
in
combination with the Rolf Barcode cards
from the Barcode game
•
as an arithmetic assignment,
in combination
with the Rolf Barcode game
The Rolf iPad Shopper uses the selfie camera, the
small screen top right, to read the Rolf Barcode cards.
You will hear a ‘beep’ when the camera recognises the
barcode.
The iPad shows the product in the screen next to the
camera, and the price and description appear on the
receipt, bottom left.
If you use the shopping cards with the QR code you
will see on the screen how much you can spend, 5 or
10 units (euro or other currency).
The game
One or two players calculate the amount with the iPad
and the other players go off with a shopping card to
do the necessary shopping.
They take a shopping basket and a shopping card
with them to do the shopping.
The budget they are allowed to spend and a number
of ingredients they must buy are noted on the
shopping card.
The players calculate the amount and may themselves
choose what they still want to add to their shopping
list to make the calculated amount add up, because
the budget must all be spent.
The total budget of the shopping is 5 or 10 coins.
They arrive at the cash register with the ingredients in
their basket and the cards with the barcodes.
At the cash register, their loyalty card, shopping card
and the cards with the fruit and vegetable barcodes
are scanned. If the total amount has been reached,
you then push the large green button and the app
gives the feedback.
If the total amount has been exceeded, the app will
signal an empty purse and the player will have to
correct the shopping.
If too little has been spent, you will see a purse with
money and you must then buy another item.
If the total amount is correct, you will see a thumbs
up and you may then carry out another assignment.
Find out how the app works on the ? help button
The individual loyalty card registers the number of
purchases the player has made and how many have
been made correctly or incorrectly.
The individual loyalty card can be downloaded on the
Rolf education website.
The players fill in their names and draw their portraits
on the card or just decorate it.
