HDD Encryption Unit
Installation - 2
The machine then creates an encryption key automatically.
It stores this encryption key in three locations.
A memory chip on the controller board (this is where the
original of the encryption key is held)
The NVRAM on the controller board (this is a copy)
The hard disk, if installed (this is also a copy)
If the encryption key in these three locations is not the
same, the encryption unit will not work.
The user also prints out this encryption key, in accordance
with the procedures in the operation manual.
The user keeps this printout in a safe place, and does not
show it to the technician.
This encryption key will be needed if the controller board is
replaced.
The memory chip on the controller board is sometimes called the “USB Flash
memory”.
