Chapter 3. Installing Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES
3.9. Install Options
Choose the type of installation you would like to perform (see Figure 3-4). Red Hat Enterprise Linux
ES allows you to choose the installation type that best fits your needs. Your options are
Server
and
Custom
.
Note
The choices for
Installation Type
presented on the
Install Options
screen vary depending on which
product you are installing.
Figure 3-4. Choosing Your Installation Type
For more information about the different installation classes, please refer to Section 1.5.
3.10. Disk Partitioning Setup
Partitioning allows you to divide your hard drive into isolated sections, where each section behaves
as its own hard drive. Partitioning is particularly useful if you run more than one operating system. If
you are not sure how you want your system to be partitioned, read Appendix D for more information.
On this screen, you can choose to perform automatic partitioning, or manual partitioning using
Disk
Druid
or
fdisk
(see Figure 3-5).
Automatic partitioning allows you to perform an installation without having to partition your drive(s)
yourself. If you do not feel comfortable with partitioning your system, it is recommended that you
do
not
choose to partition manually and instead let the installation program partition for you.
