the console). If the port is enabled, the factory default settings for some of the management
features remain with the network ports. You can change the defaults by configuring these features
to permanently use the management port.
Note:
The Alteon Application Switch 4416, 5224, 5224 XL, 5412, 5412 XL have two ports
labeled MNG, however only MNG 1 is operational. MNG 2 is for future use.
To configure the management port for the first time
1. Using the serial cable connect the console port of the Alteon Application Switch to the ASCII
terminal or computer running terminal emulation.
2. Do one of the following:

If you are using an ASCII terminal, power on the terminal.

If you are using a computer with terminal emulation software, run the terminal emulation
program and use the following port parameters:

Bits per second
:
9600
•
Data bits
:
8
•
Parity
:
None
•
Stop bits
:
1
•
Flow control
:
None
3. Do one of the following:

If you are using an ASCII terminal, press Enter a few times on the terminal to establish the
connection.
—
If you are using a computer with terminal emulation software, perform the functions
necessary to connect to the device.
If the connection has been successfully established, a login prompt is displayed and a password
is requested.
4. Enter the default administrator password:
admin
. The CLI main menu is displayed after the
entered password is verified.
5. Use the
/cfg/sys/mmgmt
menu to configure the management IP address, subnet mask, and
default gateway for the management ports.
6. Enable the management ports.
7. Apply and save the configuration.
Initial Configuration of the Device
Alteon Application Switch devices have a console port, management port, and network ports that
can be used for installing software and configuring the device. This section explains how to perform
the initial configuration of the device using these ports.
