2.1  Airflow considerations

Ensure that both the front and rear of the ActiveScale X100 stay clear of any materials that may block or 

disrupt the airflow in any way. Disrupting the airflow can cause the system to overheat which may affect 

performance or cause damage to the system.
The following rack airflow principles should be considered for best results:

• Controlled air conditioners that are functional and can sufficiently maintain specified system 

operating temperatures should be located in the facility where the system will be installed.

• The airflow in and out of the equipment must not be restricted.

2.2  Rack requirements

Note: 

Component tolerances in the rack can be very tight. Consequently, when 

measuring rack dimensions, measure to the millimeter or 1/32 of an inch.

The following is considered best practice when choosing a rack mounting solution for the ActiveScale 

X100:

System Dimension 

- select a 19" rack mounting solution that has inner dimensions of at least a height 

of 2100mm and a depth of 1200mm.

System Weight

 - consider whether the rack mounting solution selected can maintain the static loads 

required for a base system, dynamic loads if the system will be moved from its installation location, 

and the additional Storage Sleds that might be added later if the system is scaled up.

Cable Management 

- the system is designed so that most of the cables are wired at the back of the 

system. The exception is the Storage Enclosure Basic where the power and SAS cables cables connect 

in the front. Be sure that the system cabling can be routed safely and efficiently through the identified 

routes.

Grounding 

- ensure that the electrical components used to power the system can be grounded safely 

and that the rack itself can also be grounded safely.
