Contact and humidity protection; IP rating
The PROFIBUS
®
DMT has a 9-pin D-sub socket for connection to a PROFIBUS
®
cable. The pin allocation corresponds to the PROFIBUS
®
standard (see below), so
that standard bus connectors can be used.
N.B. Cable connections made with these plugs are only contact and moisture proof
to IP 20.
An installation with contact and moisture protection conforming to IP 65 is possible
because the 9-pin D-sub socket of the PROFIBUS ® DMT permits this. Accordingly,
the PROFIBUS ® cable must be provided with IP 65 class M12 industrial connectors.
Additionally the PROFIBUS ® cable must be provided with a special Y-adapter or a
terminating adapter must be connected to the DMT.
