Testing Your Boat in the Water
1. Carefully place the boat in the water.
2. Operate the boat at slow speeds near the shoreline. Avoid objects
in the water at all times.
3. Once you are comfortable operating the boat at slow speeds,
it is safe to operate the boat farther away from shorline.
4. Bring the boat back to shore when you notice the boat starting
to lose speed.
5. Power off the ESC and disconnect the battery packs.
6. Allow the motor, ESC and battery packs to cool before charging
the batteries or operating the boat again.
Speed Control Programming
The ESC in the Impulse 31 are pre-programmed for Li-Po battery low
voltage cutoff.
A programming module (PRB3311, not included) is available to change
the programming of your speed control. Settings include Ni-MH or Li-Po
batteries, cutoff voltage settings, cutoff type, brake on or off, motor
timing and throttle curve.
CAuTION:
Do not attempt to use Li-Po batteries in the Impulse
31 unless the ESC is properly programmed or serious damage to the
batteries and electronics may occur.
NOTICE:
Do not turn off the transmitter first or the receiver may pick
up stray signals and run out of control.
Maintenance
Lubricating the flexshaft is vital to the life of the drivetrain. The lubricant
also acts as a water seal, keeping water from entering the hull through
the stuffing box.
Lubricate the flexshaft, propeller shaft and all moving parts after every
2–3 hours of operation.
1. Loosen the collet nut.
2. Remove the hex screws holding the prop strut in position.
Remove the entire assembly with the flexshaft.
Carefully note how the drive shaft and prop are factory installed. This
is important so that when you have finished lubricating the drive shaft,
you can correctly reinstall the drive shaft.
3. Remove the drive shaft by sliding it out of the stuffing box. Wipe
off all dirt or debris from the flexshaft and liberally lubricate the
entire length of the drive shaft with silicone cable grease.
Carefully reinstall the drive shaft, making certain that there is a 1–2mm
gap between the prop strut and the drive dog to allow for flexshaft
shrinkage under load.
NOTICE:
Running the boat in salt water could cause some parts
to corrode. If you run the boat in salt water, rinse it thoroughly
in fresh water after each use and lubricate the drive system.
Because of its corrosive effects, running RC boats in saltwater
is at the discretion of the modeler.
