Air Balance
NOTICE - IMPROPER AIR BALANCE:
Operating the unit
outside of its design air flow range can lead to premature
heat exchanger, fan and motor failure. Follow the
requirements listed below. Failure to provide correct air
flow through the unit will void the warranty.
Once the unit has been started, an air balance should be
performed by a qualified technician.
1. Confirm that the air flow matches the design air flow
indicated on the submittal documents.
2. If drive changes are made to achieve the design air flow,
confirm that the supply fan motor amp draw is acceptable
and the fan speed does not exceed the fan rating.
Typical Sequence of Operation
Price Industries AW-I units can be customized with a wide
variety of controls options. Refer to the submittal documents
for the specific control sequence. The following is a typical
sequence for a basic gas heat make-up air unit. Refer to the
submittal for specific sequence of operation.
1. System Switch “ON”, Season Switch “WINTER”
1.1 Ambient Temperature Below The Inlet Air
Controller Set Point
The burner motor starts and purges the heat exchanger
for 90 seconds. Following the 90 second purge period, the
burner ignites. On proof of flame, the outdoor air damper
opens and once the damper end switch makes, the supply
fan starts and runs continuously. The burner modulates to
maintain the discharge air temperature set point (adjustable)
as set on the remote panel mounted Honeywell T775M
thermostat. A duct mounted sensor provides supply air
temperature input. If the control switch is turned to “off”,
the burner will shut down and the supply fan will continue
to operate until the furnace temperature drops below 130°F
(54.4°C).
1.2 Ambient Temperature Above The Inlet Air
Controller Set Point
On activation of unit the outdoor air dampers and blower
operates as “1.1” above. Burner is de-energized.
2. System Switch “ON”, Season Switch “SUMMER”
On activation of unit the outdoor air dampers and blower
operates as “1.1” above. Burner is de-energized.
3. System Switch “OFF”
The unit is inoperative. The fresh air damper is closed.
4. Additional controls
Space Temperature Control
On units with space temperature control, a wall mounted
sensor is shipped loose for field installation. The controller
adjusts the supply air temperature set point (as measured
by the duct temperature sensor) to meet the space
temperature set point (adjustable).
Cold Climate Start-up
On units with the cold climate option, on a call for heat, the
furnace will operate as outlined in 1.1. However, the supply
fan will not start until the furnace temperature is above
130°F (54.4°C).
