input current "AMPS IN" but do not include the
Maintenance menu Belt Rating feature.
Introduction
This procedure will use the treadmill AC input current draw and visual belt/deck inspection
to determine the wear condition and whether it is time to replace the belt and deck.
As the belt and deck becomes increasingly worn, the belt/deck surface friction increases
causing the drive motor to work harder increasing the demand for motor current and AC
input current. When the AC input current draw exceeds approximately 16 amps for 120 Vac
machines (or 8 amps for 230/240 Vac machines), the treadmill may begin to trigger AC input
current and/or motor current overload related error codes. Operational issues may also start
to occur, such as, automatic speed slow down or machine shutdown.
The exact input current level required to determine when it's time to replace the belt and
deck is not an exact science. There are a several factors that can affect the AC input current
demand:
l
Physical condition of the belt/deck (dirty and/or worn belt/decks require more motor
current).
l
Weight of the exerciser (heavier exercisers require more motor current).
l
Belt speed and the incline level. (slower speed and lower incline require more motor
current).
Determining the Belt/Deck condition and replacement
It is important to remember that the weight of the exerciser will affect the AC input current
demand. Heavier exercisers require more AC input current than lighter exercisers. There-
fore, note that if you are a lighter weight technician, you may not be able to reproduce a
reported belt/deck issue that was caused by a heavy exerciser. Also, your AC input current
test result will be less than a heavier technician and must be considered when determining if
the test results exceed the belt/deck AC input current spec limits.
For example, a lighter weight technician is determining if it is time to replace a belt/deck.
The AC input current draw measurement is 18.5 amps, 0.5 amps lower than the belt/deck
replacement 19 amp spec limit. Assuming the belt/deck is clean, because this is a lighter
weight technician doing the test measurement, the belt/deck should be replaced because a
maximum weight exerciser will most likely trigger motor current overload error codes and
exceed the 19 amp spec limit.
