Testing Magnetron

WARNING:

Never attempt to measure high voltage directly. Death or serious injury could

result. Always make sure to discharge the capacitor manually before commencing repair.

Remove both side, back and top covers from the unit.

Unplug the oven and discharge the capacitor manually by grounding each capacitor terminal.

Look for physical damage to the component.

Disconnect both cables from the magnetron.

With a multimeter set to lowest resistance scale, measure the continuity between both
magnetron terminals as shown in the picture below.

•

If the resistance measure zero ohms as shown in picture below, move on to step 6.

•

If the reading shows high resistance or open, the magnetron is faulty and will need to be
replaced.

With the multimeter set to the highest resistance scale, measure the continuity between each
terminal and ground as shown in the picture below.

•

If the resistance measures zero ohms from the terminal to ground, the magnetron is good.

•

If the resistance measures continuity from the terminal to ground, the magnetron is faulty
and needs to be replaced.
