Communication connection
Communication ports:
USB port RS-232 port Intelligent slot
To allow for unattended UPS shutdown/start-up and status monitoring, connect one end of the
communication cable to the USB/RS-232 port and the other to the communication port of your
PC. With the monitoring software installed, you can schedule UPS shutdown/start-up and
monitor UPS status through PC. The USB port is Human Interface Device (HID) compliant
which allows the UPS to have basic communication with Windows or MAC operating systems
directly without the need to install software.
The UPS is equipped with intelligent slot for optional SNMP or AS400 relay cards. These cards
will provide advanced communication and monitoring options. To fit the card remove the two
screws securing the Intelligent Slot cover. Locate the card in the location grooves in the
housing and slide into place. The card will need a gentle push to fully engage. Ensure the card
is properly located within the grooves in the housing before attempting to fully engage.

Network connection
Network/Fax/Phone surge port
Connect a single modem/phone/fax line into surge-protected
“IN” outlet on the back panel of the UPS unit. Connect from
“OUT” outlet to the equipment with another modem/fax/phone
line cable. Note this is a connection for protecting against “back-door” surges on network
cables. It is a passive circuit and provides no network function.
3.7.6.
Emergency Power Off (EPO) function
The VFI1000QS is equipped with Emergency Power Off (EPO) function. The EPO port is located
on the rear panel (refer to section 3.3 Rear Panel) and consists of a plug and socket
arrangement. When shipped the factory default is to have the plug fitted with a shorting link
and this is inserted and screwed to the socket. To use the EPO function, remove the plug and
shorting link, connect to your preferred EPO scheme and reconnect the plug to the UPS.
If the EPO function is not to be used leave the
plug in-situ.
Note:
The EPO function logic can be set up via
LCD setting. Please refer to program 16 in UPS
setting for the details.
