High speeds are best for carving, shaping
or cutting metal, wood or glass. Cut Iron
and steel at the maximum speed if using a
tungsten carbide accessory, but use a
slower speed if using high-speed steel
cutters. If a high-speed cutter is 'chattering'
while in use, increase the speed until the
'chattering' stops.
Aluminum, copper alloys, lead alloys, zinc
alloys and tin may be cut at any speed,
depending on the type of cutting being
done. Use paraffin or other suitable
lubricant on the cutter to prevent the cut
material from adhering to the cutter teeth.
Certain materials (some plastics, for
example) require a relatively slow speed
because at high speed the friction of the
tool generates heat and causes the plastic
to melt.
Slow speeds are usually best for polishing operations with felt polishing
accessories. They may also be best for working on delicate projects such as
delicate woodcarving or fragile model parts.
Only use a maximum setting of 15,000 RPM for wire brush accessories to
prevent wires from being excessively worn or ejected during use.

ROTARY TOOL USE

CAUTION! Do not change the rotary tool's speed while in contact with
the workpiece. This can cause a loss of control and result in an injury
and damage to the tool or workpiece.

1.

Determine if you need to clamp or secure the workpiece.

2.

Insert the appropriate rotary bit and tighten the collet nut.

3.

Select the rotary tool speed based on the rotary bit and workpiece
material.

4.

Turn the tool ON and apply the bit to the workpiece. If you are moving the
tool across the workpiece, move against the bit's rotation direction to
prevent kickback. Maintain a steady pace when moving the tool to
prevent an uneven result.
