The LCD displays information about the test results, operation modes and
count rate values. The LCD includes a backlight circuit which is controlled by the
processor and activated by button 16.
The control buttons are used to select operating modes and control operation of
the instrument.
The IR transceiver is used to provide communication between the instrument
and PC.
The built-in audible alarm device is used to produce audible signals in the self-
test, background calibration and search modes. In the search mode the rate of audible
signals increases as the device moves closer to a radiation source.
The light alarm is used to produce light signals in the search mode. The rate of
light signals increases as the device moves closer to a radiation source.
The power supply includes battery, converters (1.5-5)V, (5-30)V and electronic
switches controlled by the processor unit.
The headphones are used to produce audible signals in the self-test,
background calibration and search modes. In the search mode the rate of audible
signals increases as the device moves closer to a radiation source.
The audible alarms can be switched on/off in the PC communication mode or
using the control buttons on the front panel of the instrument, if this is enabled in the
PC communication mode.
2 OPERATION
CAUTIONS:
Observe your site regulations for operations with radioactive materials and
radiation safety regulations when searching for radiation sources.
When the instrument operates at temperatures below -15
o
C, the LCD is not
fail-proof. Rely only on the audible or vibration alarm when detecting radiation
sources. The LCD resumes its normal operation when temperature conditions are
above -15
o
C.
2.1 Turning the Instrument ON/OFF
To turn the instrument on, press the MODE button 12 (Fig.1). The instrument
will shortly produce an audible signal, display all segments and
indicators, go through a self-check and background calibration
sequences, and go into the search mode. The LCD will display
count rate in s
-1
. The instrument is ready for operation.
To turn the instrument off, press and hold the LIGHT button 16 (Fig.1) until
the LCD displays “OFF” message. This indicates that the power is indeed off. The
LCD will never be blank until the battery is completely drained.
