1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
1
The PM 1701M Alarming Ratemeter (hereinafter referred to as “the
instrument”) is designed to measure gamma count rate in order to search for, detect
and locate radioactive sources/emissions by their gamma radiation. When the
instrument is ON it continuously monitors radiation environment and compares to
normal background and the threshold set by the user. In case the threshold is
exceeded the instrument alerts the user by visual and audible signals about the
presence of radiation source nearby. All operation history is stored in the instrument’s
non-volatile memory and may be downloaded to a personal computer through
infrared (IR) interface.
The instrument may be used both indoors and outdoors by various users whose
professional duties involve detection and location of radiation sources (scrap metal
facilities, nuclear waste disposal and storage sites, vehicular and cargo customs check
points, first responders, etc.).
