Engine Oil
Oil and Filter Change (2x4, 4X4)
8. Reattach the oil line.
9. Place shop towels beneath the
oil filter (5). Using an oil filter
wrench, turn the filter
counterclockwise to remove.
10. Using a clean dry cloth, clean
the filter sealing surface on the
crankcase.
11. Lubricate the gasket on the new
filter with a film of new engine
oil. Check to make sure the
gasket is in good condition.
Also make sure the gasket from
the old filter is not still on the
engine.
12. Install the new filter and turn by hand until the filter gasket
contacts the sealing surface, then turn and additional 1/2 turn.
13. Approximately one cup of engine oil will remain in the crankcase.
To drain, remove the drain plug on the lower right side of the
crankcase.
NOTE:
The sealing surfaces on the drain plug and crankcase should
be clean and free of burrs, nicks or scratches.
14. Reinstall the drain plug and torque to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm).
15. Remove the dipstick and fill the tank with two quarts (1.9 l) of
Polaris Premium 4 Synthetic Oil.
16. Place the gear selector in neutral and set the parking brake.
17.
Prime the oil pump using the procedure on page 64.
Then stop
the engine and inspect for leaks.
18. Re-check the oil level on the dipstick and add oil as necessary to
bring the level to the upper mark on the dipstick.
19. Dispose of used filter and oil properly.
