BRAKE SYSTEM INSPECTION
CAUTION
A hot brake system can cause burns. Allow the brake system and the engine to
cool or wear protective gloves when inspecting the brake system.
1. Inspect all brake hoses and connections for dampness or stains from leaking
or dried fluid. Tighten any leaking connections and replace components as
necessary. See the
SLINGSHOT Service Manual
or your authorized dealer.
2. Check the brake pedal for excessive travel or a spongy feel.
3. Inspect the rotor to ensure tightness to hub.
4. Check the brake pads for wear, damage and looseness.
5. Inspect brake discs for nicks, scratches, cracks or other damage. Clean any
grease using an approved brake cleaner or alcohol.
WARNING
Do not apply WD-40 or any petroleum product to brake discs. These types of
products are flammable and may also reduce the friction between the brake
pad and caliper.
6. Inspect the brake disc spline and pad wear surface for excessive wear.
Change pads when worn to 3/50'' (1.5 mm).
7. Inspect the thickness of each brake disc at four or more locations around the
disc. If any disc is worn to the minimum thickness at the thinnest point, or if a
disc is damaged, see your dealer for replacement.
8. The R model comes with a 2–piece rotor. Check that the rotor is tightened
adequately to the hub.
