Side Effects
The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) states these side effects
of CPR:
7
“Rib fractures and other injuries are common but acceptable consequences of CPR
given the alternative of death from cardiac arrest. After resuscitation, all patients
should be reassessed and re-evaluated for resuscitation-related injuries.”
Apart from the above, skin abrasions, bruising and soreness of the chest are common
during the use of the LUCAS Chest Compression System.
Clinical as well as autopsy studies have shown that LUCAS compressions are safe for the
patient
8–11, 13
with the same type of side-effects as for manual CPR.
