Intended use
Sami the Seal is an AC-powered air nebulizer compressor system intended to provide a source
of compressed air for medical purposes. It is to be used with a pneumatic nebulizer to produce
aerosol particles of medication for respiratory therapy for both children and adults.
Unpacking your Sami the Seal system
When you unpack your Sami the Seal from its shipping case:
•
Carefully examine the contents.
•
Save the shipping carton.
•
Make sure you have all the content items listed and that they are not damaged.
•
Report anything missing or damaged to Philips Respironics.
Do not install, maintain or operate this equipment without first reading and understanding
these instructions for use. If you are unable to understand any portion of these instructions,
contact your healthcare provider or call Philips Respironics Customer S00 1 724 387 4000.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical products, especially when children are present, safety precautions
should always be followed, including the following:

WARNINGS
To reduce the risk of electrocution:
If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
•
Always unplug this product immediately after using.
•
Do not use the unit while bathing.
•
Do not place or store product where it can fall or be pulled into a tub or sink.
•
Do not place in or drop into water or other liquid.
•
Do not reach for product that has fallen into water. Unplug immediately.
To reduce the risk of burns, electrocution, fire or injury to persons:
•
A product should never be left unattended when plugged in.
•
Close supervision is necessary when this product is used by, on, or near children or physically
challenged individuals.
•
Use this product only for its intended use as described in this manual. Do not use attachments
not recommended by the manufacturer.
•
Never operate this product if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, if
it is has been dropped or damaged, or dropped into water. Return the product to a service
center for examination.
•
Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
•
Never block the air opening of this product or place it on a soft surface, such as a bed or couch,
where the air openings may be blocked. Keep the air openings free of lint, hair, and the like.
•
Never use while sleeping or drowsy.
•
Note: It is normal for the device to be warm to the touch when in use.
•
If the device has been outside of the operating conditions, allow to come back to normal
operating specifications before use.
•
Never drop or insert any object into any openings.
•
Do not use outdoors or operate where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where
oxygen is being administered in a closed area such as an oxygen tent.
•
No modification of this equipment is allowed.
•
Electromagnetic information: Portable and RF communication devices such as cellular phones,
pagers, etc. can interrupt operation of electrical medical equipment. For this reason, your
compressor must be placed far enough away from these devices to prevent interference. This
device meets IEC60601-1-2 standard for electromagnetic compatability (EMC). EMC data sheets
are available from Philips Respironics customer service at +00 1 724 387 4000 (outside the US).
•
Do not stack the compressor with other equipment.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble.
•
Do not use compressor and nebulizer separately.
Device safety system
Thermal protector
The device contains a thermal protector which will turn the device OFF if it overheats.
Should the
unit overheat, and the thermal protector activates, switch the unit to the off "O" position, then
allow the device to cool down for at least 40 minutes before switching the unit back on.
