• SmartNode Installation
Connect the cables in the following order:
1.
Connect the 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet LAN and WAN (see section
1000Base-T Ethernet LAN and WAN cables”
2.
If applicable, connect the DSL WAN port (see section
“Installation cable requirements for the DSL WAN
3.
Connect the power mains cable (see section

The SmartNode has automatic MDX (auto-crossover) detection and configuration on all Ethernet ports. Any
of the ports can be connected to a host or hub/switch with a straight-through or cross-over wired cable.

Connect to the subscriber port of the broadband access modem (DSL, cable, WLL) to
ETH 0/0
.
Note
The SmartNode Ethernet ports operate in Full Duplex mode only. Do not
connect to Half Duplex ports. For best results, use auto-negotiation. Auto
negotiation is mandatory when using 1000BaseT (Gigabit) Ethernet.
2.
Connect port ETH 0/1 to your LAN.

Installation cable requirements for the DSL WAN cable (SN5491 only)
The SmartNode Model 5491 comes with a universal option for a G.SHDSL, ADSL or EFM interface. Use a
straight-through RJ-11 cable to connect the G.SHDSL port.
Connecting the SmartNode’s DSL or Fiber port (SN5491 only)
The SmartNode Model 5491 comes with an option for a SFP for Fiber WAN module. For details about the
tested and compatible SFP modules please refer to
http://www.patton.com/products/sfpmodules.asp
.
The interconnecting cables shall be acceptable for external use
and shall be rated for the proper application with respect to volt-
age, current, anticipated temperature, flammability, and
mechanical serviceability.
