Instruction for replacing Upper Burner Assembly:
WARNING: Improper adjustment, alteration, service or maintenance can cause
property damage, personal injury, or death.
WARNING: After replacing the front plate, check for gas leakage. Then, test ignition.
Make sure that there is no gas leakage.
Notice: When replacing the Upper Burner Assembly by using the Upper Burner Kit (listed below)
for the water heater with the serial number before 06-09-xxxxxx, be careful that the position of the
Igniter Electrode and the Flame Rod Electrode was changed.
Note: If the water heater has the serial number after 06-10-xxxxxx, the different Upper Burner
Kit may be required.
How to replace the Upper Burner Assembly:
1. Disconnect the electric power to the water heater. Turn off the gas shutoff valve and water
shutoff valve.
2. Remove the front cover.

3. Burner Control Assembly (PC Board) Removal:
(1) Pull out all connectors that are connected the Burner
Control Assembly (PC Board).
(2) Remove one (1) FT screw that holds the PC Board
in place.
4. Front Plate Removal:
(1) Remove two (2) FT screws that attach the Igniter
Holder to the Front Plate.
(2) Remove two (2) FT screws that hold the Air Filter
SW Assembly to the Front Plate. (Indoor Model
Only)
(3) Loosen six (6) FT screws that connect three (3)
Flange B to the Gas Control Valve Assembly.
(4) Remove two (2) FT screws that connect Flange A to Lower Burner Assembly L and
remove three (3) FT screws that connect Flange C to Lower Burner Assembly R.
(5) Pull Burner Pipe C from Lower Burner Assembly L and pull Burner Pipes A and B from
Lower Burner Assembly R.
