Inspect
Maintenance Tasks
Doors and surrounds

Inspect for scratches and nicks that can lead to rust when exposed to weather

Wipe face and
fi
nish material. Use a degreaser to remove soot buildup, if necessary.
Valve compartment

Vacuum and wipe out dust, cobwebs, debris or pet hair. Use caution when cleaning these areas. Screw tips that
have penetrated the sheet metal are sharp and should be avoided.

Remove any foreign objects.

Verify unobstructed air circulation.
Logs
1
Inspect for broken, damaged or missing logs. Replace as necessary.

Logs will accumulate soot. Periodically brush soot from the logs with a paint brush or vacuum.
Firebox
1
Inspect for paint condition, warping, corrosion or perforation. Sand and repaint as necessary.

Replace appliance if
fi
rebox has been perforated.

Check caulking around gas line and pilot assembly and replace as necessary to prevent water in
fi
ltrating the
appliance.
Burner ignition and
operation
1
Verify burner is properly secured to
fi
rebox bottom.

Clean off burner top, inspect for plugged ports, corrosion or deterioration.

Verify air shutter is clear of dust and debris.

Inspect ori
fi
ce for soot, dirt or corrosion.
5
Verify manifold and inlet pressures. Adjust regulator as required.

Inspect pilot
fl
ame strength. Clean or replace ori
fi
ce as necessary.

Inspect thermocouple/thermopile or IPI sensor rod for soot, corrosion and deterioration. Polish with
fi
ne steel wool
or replace as required.
Remote controls
1
Verify operation of remote.
2
Replace batteries in remote transmitters.
3
If appliance will not be used for a long period of time, verify batteries have been removed from battery back-up in
IPI systems to prevent premature battery failure or leaking.
