The Miami JTO
®
is designed exclusively for use with the Miami J
®
Collar.
Fits adult patients with waist circumference greater than 24 inches (61
cm). Not made with natural rubber latex. For instructions on proper care
and cleaning of the Miami JTO
®
and collar, please consult the Miami
JTO
®
Patient Handbook.
Patients under C-Spine precautions require supine application of the
Miami JTO
®
.
PRE-aPPLICaTION OF MIaMI JTO
1. Select appropriate size Miami J
®
Collar (see. Miami J
®
Sizing &
Application Instructions or Wall Chart). The Miami JTO may be
applied over light clothing
(Figure 1)

2. Remove blue and white sternal pad from collar
(Figure 2)
.
3. Remove Chin Strut from Miami JTO Front Piece
(Figure 3)
.
4. Squeeze collar to expose chin rivet. Attach Chin Strut. The top inside
opening of the Chin Strut will slide around the center rivet on the
collar and snap into place

5. A) Attach Chin Strut feet to the Chest Plate in the lowest possible
position (height may be adjusted later). The Sternal Plate on the collar
attaches to hook and loop at the top of the Miami JTO Chest Plate.
Make sure the blue pad of collar is behind the Chest Plate pad
(Figure 5a)
.
B) Rivet holes in the Chin Strut can be aligned with corresponding
holes on the Chest Plate to insure symmetrical positioning
(Figure 5b)
.
6. If not already attached, attach Miami JTO Front to Chest Plate, using
one of the two bottom openings. The Miami JTO Front should be set
at the highest possible position and should be above the costal
margin
(Figure 6)

7. A) Use Retaining Strap to loosely apply front of Miami JTO to patient.
Sides of the collar Front Piece should be oriented up, off the
trapezius, and toward the ears

B) SUPINE APPLICATION: Ensure patient’s head is in treatment
position, and is stabilized
(Figure 7b)

8. A) Center collar Back Piece on patient’s neck and attach hook and
loop straps to front of collar. Tighten straps one at a time, to an equal
length on both sides. Hook and loop straps should be aligned
“blue-
on-blue.”

maintain alignment. Optional: Attach 4” Shoulder Pads (in
Accessories Pack) to shoulder straps of Miami JTO Back Piece. Proper
positioning of the Back Piece will allow scapulae to move freely
(Figure 8a)

B) SUPINE APPLICATION: Logroll patient onto side. Place the Miami
JTO Back Piece on the bed beside the patient’s back, with shoulder
and waist straps spread out

9. A) Position the Miami JTO Back Piece to rest in the center of the
patient’s back. The top edge should rest approximately at T1/T2
(Figure 9a)

B) Return the patient to the supine position
(Figure 9b)

10. Attach the Miami JTO Front to the Back using the shoulder buckles.
Adjust the shoulder straps for a snug fit. Both shoulder straps should
