Attach the back plate on the vertebral column at the place
prescribed by the doctor:
a. Loosen the fixing screws of the retainer plate of the pin, move the plate
until the desired height is reached and fix again (fig. I);
b. also loosen the fixing screw of the retainer plate of the lever, move
until it is at the same height as the pin and fix again (fig. K).
If prescribed by the doctor, the back plate can also be fixed vertically (fig. L).
Pull the strap through the horizontal loops and insert into the vertical loops.
Adjusting the strap:
a. Ensure that the locking lever is open; loosen the fixing screws of the toothed
belt (fig. M) (for easier handling, the bracket can be removed provisionally
and only the toothed belt can be used, fig. N)
b. guide the strap over the back of the patient (fig. 0); push the toothed belt
until the desired length in the ratchet (fig. P); cut any overlapping part of
the toothed belt using scissors (fig. P);
c block the toothed belt by tightening the screws (fig. R); insert the buckle
into the pin (fig. R) and fix the hyperextension orthosis using the locking
lever (fig. S)
d. if required, the strap can be readjusted to achieve the desired compressive
force in the lumbar region. The optimum compressive force is achieved if
the hyperextension orthosis remains in its correct position even when the
locking lever is open. Should the strap be too short after the toothed belt
has been completely pulled out, it can be extended by cutting the appropriate

closures near the lever (fig. T);
e. ensure that the back plate is exactly in the centre of the vertebral column.
