Changing the Desiccant Plugs
Above the top hinge of each detector panel is a humidity indicator cartridge that helps keep the detector
electronics as dry as possible. Each plug is capped with a humidity indicator as shown in Figure 29. This gives
you a quick way to check the status of the desiccant inside the plugs. The left side of the figure shows a
new/dry humidity indicator cartridge. Note that all 3 sectors show a blue to light blue color. The desiccant in
the cartridge must be changed when one of these sectors turns a light lavender or pink or every 6 months,
whichever comes first. The frequency with which you replace the desiccant will depend on your work
environment. Replacement desiccant is included in the supplied spare parts kit, and replacement indicator
cartridges are available from ORTEC.

WARNING:
Before replacing the desiccant, be sure to read the entire procedure as well as the included
desiccant safety data sheet.
Wear the supplied latex gloves at all times when handling the desiccant.
3
Replace the desiccant indoors in a space with low air velocity to avoid inhaling desiccant particles.

If you are latex- and/or powder-sensitive, substitute user-supplied, commercially available nitrile or vinyl gloves.
