Battery Replacement
When the battery signal LOG appears on the display, replace the meter’s battery (9V). The battery compartment is located
below the trigger. Batteries do not belong in the household garbage. According to the battery ordinance,
you are obliged to return all used or defect batteries to local collecting points or to a dealer.
7 Field of view
The product’s field of view is 12:1. This means, if for instance the distance between measuring instrument and target is 72 cm,
the diameter (measuring spot) of the object to be measured must be at least 6 cm. The meter can measure from greater
distances, but the measurement might be affected by external light sources.
8 Emissivity and measuring principle
The infrared thermometer measures the surface temperature of an object. This happens by infrared emission, reflection and
transmission into energy. The thermometer translates the electric signals into temperature values which can be read on the
LC display.
The IR energy emitted by an object is proportional to its temperature and its abilty to emit energy. This is called emissivity
and refers to the material and its surface finish. The emissivity value lies in the range between 0.1 and 1.0. Most organic
materials and painted or oxidised surfaces have an emissivity value of 0.95. If in doubt, set the emissivity at 0.95.
6 Notes
• The target object has to be larger than the measuring spot of the laser.
• Before measuring, make sure that the surface of the object is clean and not covered by rust, oil and dirt.
• The measurement of shiny or polished (reflective) surfaces leads to measurement errors. If an object’s surface is highly
reflective, apply masking tape or flat black paint to the surface before measuring. Measurements through transparent
surfaces or glass may not be accurate.
• Steam, dust, smoke, etc. can obscure measurements.
• When carrying out IR measurements, the measuring instrument automatically compensates for deviations in ambient
temperature. Please observe that it can take up to 30 minutes for the meter to adjust to extremely high temperature
differences.
• To find a hot spot, aim the meter ouside the area of interest, then scan across (in up and down or side to side movements)
until the hot spot is located.
