DO’S AND DON’T’S
Do not burn green firewood
Do not overload the firebox
Do not use the heater to burn rubbish
Do not leave the heater unattended with the firebox door open
Do not allow ash to build up so that the red hot coals are burning against the steel sides of the heat
exchange. If this is allowed to happen severe buckling and cracking may take place. Remember it is
essential to keep the coals well below the top of the fire bricks.
Do not burn COAL or BRIQUETTES. Heat exchanger failure will result.
Do not open fire box door if there is a power failure.
Do not jam open the Combustion Air Damper.
Do replace the fire bricks, baffle plates and door gaskets when damaged to protect your firebox.
POWER OR FAN FAILURE
In the event of a power failure while the heater is in operation the combustion air damper will close
reducing fire intensity.
This safety function is critical to avoid overheating and damage to the firebox.
Ensure that the combustion air damper door is closed and un-obstructed.
Do not open the fire box door in this situation. If the door is opened the fire will build up and
overheating will occur.
It is recommended that if the supply air fan fails, turn the wall thermostat down, to ensure that the
combustion air damper remains closed off and the fire burns out until you are ready to restart the
system after repairs.`
If you are concerned about overheating with a fan or power failure, quickly douse the fire with a small
amount of water and close the firebox door.
In the event of overheating the furnace check carefully for damage before re-using.
The Honeywell Fan/Limit controller (on the front left of the furnace) can become out of calibration
when overheated. Calibration can be checked, when the furnace has completely cooled, by
removing the cover and reading the temperature scale on the dial at the 6.00 o’clock mark of the
housing. The reading should correspond with the ambient temperature at that time.
