CLEANING OUT YOUR NEWBURN

THIS JOB IS BEST DONE AFTER AN OVERNIGHT BURN.

1. Allow the fire to burn down so there is not much unburned wood left and turn down the room

thermostat.

2. Open the firebox door and using a metal fire shovel push the hot coals to one side of the

firebox through opening and scrape the remaining ash out into a metal container, leaving
unburned wood and hot coals to one side.

3. Scrape the  unburned  wood   and  hot   coals  back  to  the  other  side  of  the  firebox  and  then

remove the remaining ash.  This ash will be very hot. Handle and dispose of it carefully.

4. Reposition the hot coals and unburned wood centrally and reset the fire with kindling and more

wood.  Close the firebox door.
Reset thermostat to required temperature.

5. Periodically allow the heater to go out in order to inspect the firebricks.

Cleaning should be done on at least a weekly basis when using the Furnace continuously.

Ash build-up will depend on usage and the quality of the firewood used but it is essential not to
permit the ash bed from building up and obstructing the primary combustion air inlet.
