Installing Your Yap Jack
Internet Service Provider (ISP)
Before using your Yap Jack, you will need to select an Internet Service
Provider (ISP) and set up an account if you do not already have one.
Please note that you must select an ISP that uses standard Internet
Point-to-Point protocol (PPP). While most ISP’s use PPP to connect,
currently America Online (AOL) does not. Thus, you will not be able
to use AOL to make Internet telephone calls with your Yap Jack. If
you already have a PPP-compatible Internet access account, you can
begin installing your Yap Jack. Please contact your ISP directly if you
have any questions regarding their PPP compatibility.
Choosing an ISP
You are responsible for selecting your own ISP account. Care should
be taken when selecting an ISP since the quality of its service could
have an impact on the quality of your Internet phone calls. For exam-
ple, you will want to utilize an ISP that has a reliable connection and
provides ease and speed in connecting to the Internet during peak
usage hours.
Choose an ISP that provides a local access number so that calls to the
network are local telephone calls. If you live in an area without local
ISP access, choose a service that provides the closest access number
to minimize your telephone charge. Check with your local telephone
company to ensure your access number is considered a local call. A
cost-effective ISP may be one that charges a fixed rate for unlimited
dial-up access.
