User Guide 

INSTALLING AND REMOVING PROCEDURES 

Follow the procedures below to install or remove components. 

Hard Disk 

The hard disk bay in the Disk Expansion Unit contains 12 slots. 

IMPORTANT:

   

Do not use any hard disks that are not authorized by NEC.   
Installing a third-party hard disk drive may cause a failure 
of the disk expansion chassis as well as of the hard disk 
drive.   

 

The slot numbers are set as follows.

The disk identification numbers, allocated to the hard 

disk drives by the RAID configuration software, vary 
between card manufacturers. If you have any doubts, 
please use the disk management software or the RAID 
controller BIOS to identify a specific drive.

Empty trays are inserted in the hard disk drive slots. 

These trays ensure proper cooling of the Disk 
Expansion Unit. Always replace the trays in the hard 
disk drive slots, even if they are not fitted with a hard 
disk drive.
