Checklist: Updating VTM Firmware

Verify that there are no active connections with the ActiveService Network (ASN).
To end or prevent ASN connections, disconnect the modem from the system or
from the phone jack.

In ftServer Management Console (ftSMC), verify that both VTMs are online and
running in duplex mode. Expand ftServer (Local), ftServer I/O Enclosures, and
I/O Enclosure - 10. Click VTM Adapter - 3 or VTM Adapter - 4. In the details
pane, make sure the value of
OpState:State
is
Duplex
. Do not update the
firmware if the value is
Simplex
.
To update the VTM firmware
1. To copy the VTM firmware file to the system, do one of the following:
•
Insert the Express5800/320Ma VTM Firmware Update CD in the CD-ROM
drive. In the VTM Firmware Setup message box, click OK.

Download a file that contains the VTM firmware from the Express5800/320Ma
System Downloads page at
http://support.necsam.com/servers/
. Save the file
in the %ProgramFiles%\Stratus\Firmware\VTM folder.
2. In ftSMC, expand ftServer (Local), ftServer I/O Enclosures, and I/O
Enclosure - 10. Expand VTM Adapter - 3, or VTM Adapter - 4 and then click
VTM Config - 3 or VTM Config - 4.
3. Make sure that the system is not automatically burning the firmware to the VTMs.
In the details pane for VTM Config - 3 or VTM Config - 4, verify that the value of the
OpState:State
property is
Online
. If the state is
FW Update
or
FW Update
Complete
, do not continue with the remaining steps in this procedure. For
information about autoburn, which automatically burns the firmware to the VTMs,
see
“Enabling and Disabling Autoburn to VTMs” on page 6-3
.
4. Right-click VTM Config - 3 or VTM Config - 4, and click Update Firmware.
5. In the Update Firmware on VTM Config -
n
dialog box, click Browse and navigate
to the folder in which you saved the VTMn.nnn.cab file, typically
%ProgramFiles%\Stratus\Firmware\VTM.
6. In the Open dialog box, double-click VTMn.nnn.cab.
7. Click Finish in the Update Firmware on VTM Config - n dialog box.
The following message appears, indicating that the firmware update is beginning:
The operation completed successfully.
Click OK in the message box.
8. In ftSMC, monitor the value of the
OpState:State
property as it transitions to the
following values:
