Figure 6 : TYPICAL DRAIN LINE WITH OPTIONAL CONDENSATE NEUTRALIZATION TANK
Note: The heat trace drain line system comes in many lengths to accommodate your needs: 10, 15,
20, 25, 30, 50 linear foot.
Optional neutralization kit
(see previous section for Axiom model)
1.
The condensate is only slightly acidic, however, local codes may require it to be neutralized prior to
entering the drainage system. An optional, field installed, condensate neutralization system is
available from our factory.
2.
If you are using the optional condensate neutralization tank (axiom industries nc-2 or nt25) it must be
installed inside the building in a heated room or it may freeze and back water up into the heat
exchanger which will cause serious damage.
3.
The heat trace drain line must penetrate the roof, every building and every roof is different, each with
their own challenges to overcome. Make sure to use the appropriate pipe sleeve curb that will provide
a good weather tight seal for your specific situation.
4.
To prevent flue gas from entering the building and living space make sure you have installed a
condensate trap before discharging the condensate into the sewer drain pipe (or where the
condensate piping terminates) and before it reaches the condensate neutralization tank which does
not provide the required flue gas trap.
5.
Secure the trap loop and the heated drain line system with cable ties.
6.
For more details about the condensate neutralization tank please refer to the manufacturer
installation and operation manual. It is essential to read and follow all the instructions and warnings in
the manual, prior to assembly, setup or use, in order to operate correctly and avoid damage or serious
injury.
Note: as a guideline 7,000,000 btu/hr at 96% efficiency will produce approximately 45 gal/hr (170 l/hr) of
condensate.
