7.17 Battery-Charging Generator

7.17.1 Battery-charging generator drive – Drive belt replacement

Preconditions

Engine is stopped and starting disabled.

Preparatory steps

Remove safety equipment (if fitted).

Unscrew screws of protective cover (engine free end).

Remove protective cover.

Drive belt replacement 16V

Hold adjusting lever in place at square (2).

Rotate adjusting lever until drive belt is re-
leased.

Secure adjusting lever with a pin punch or
screwdriver (1) in bore (Ø6 mm).

Remove drive belt.

Check cleanness of belt pulleys.

Fit new drive belt.

Remove the tool to hold the adjusting lever
in position.

Slowly apply adjusting lever to drive belt
with square (2).

Final steps

Install protective cover.

Install screws of protective cover.

Install safety equipment (if fitted).

Check function of safety equipment (if fitted).
