Power Management Features
MSI Reminds You...
S3-related functions described in this section are available
only when your BIOS supports S3 sleep mode.
ACPI Standby State
This item specifies the power saving modes for ACPI function. If your operat-
ing system supports ACPI, such as W indows 98SE, W indows ME, W indows
2000 and Windows XP, you can choose to enter the Standby mode in S1 (POS)
or S3 (STR) fashion through the setting of this field. Options are:
[S1/POS]
The S1 sleep mode is a low power state. In this state, no
system context is lost (CPU or chipset) and hardware main-
tains all system context.
[S3/STR]
The S3 sleep mode is a lower power state where the informa-
tion of system configuration and open applications/files is saved
to main memory that remains powered while most other hard-
ware components turn off to save energy. The information
stored in memory will be used to restore the system when a
“
wake up
”
event occurs.
[Auto]
BIOS determines the best setting automatically.
Re-Call VGA BIOS from S3
Selecting [Enabled] allows BIOS to call VGA BIOS to initialize the VGA card
when system wakes up (resumes) from S3 sleep state. The system resume
time is shortened when you disable the function, but system will need an AGP
driver to initialize the VGA card. Therefore, if the AGP driver of the card does
not support the initialization feature, the display may work abnormally or not
function after resuming from S3.
