Programmable LED Name Badge
Please read these operating instructions carefully prior to
installing and operating the unit. Thus, you will get to know all
functions of the unit, operating errors will be prevented, and
yourself and the unit will be protected against any damage
caused by improper use. Please keep the operating instruc-
tions for later use.

Applications
With its clip, this name badge with LED light writing can be fas-
tened e. g. to your clothes. It is programmable directly via the
three buttons or via a PC by means of the cable supplied. The
message memory has a capacity of 150 characters for the
main message and of 80 additional characters for any start
message desired (only via a PC) which will scroll once when -
ever the name badge is switched on. The messages will also
be preserved when replacing the battery of the name badge.
The scrolling speed of the messages and the number of
repeats of the main message are also adjustable via the PC.
The PC programme also allows to mem orize the messages
entered as files on the PC and to reload them, if required.

The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it against
dripping water and splash water, high air humidity, and heat
(admissible ambient temperature range 0 – 40 °C).

chemicals.

No guarantee claims for the unit and no liability for any
result ing personal damage or material damage will be
accepted if the unit is used for other purposes than original-
ly intended, if it is not correctly installed or not repaired in an
expert way, or if the software is not correctly installed.

Installation
3.1 PC programme
The following PC system is required:
Microsoft Windows operating system:
Windows 98/Windows ME/Windows NT/
Windows 2000/Windows XP
CPU: Intel Pentium 166 or higher
RAM: 32 MB or more
Screen resolution: SVGA or higher
USB port
CD drive (suitable for 8 cm CDs)
1) Terminate any active programme under
Windows.
2) Insert the programme CD and click “Install Software” in the
welcome window which will appear. If the installation pro-
gramme fails to start automatically, start the programme
SETUP.EXE from the CD.
3) Click “Next >” to start the installation.
To abort the installation now or later, click “Cancel”, and
confirm this in the following window with “Exit Setup”.
Dead batteries do not belong in the house hold
rubbish; always take them to a special waste dis-
posal (e. g. collecting container at your retailer).
If the unit is to be put out of operation definitively,
take it to a local recycling plant for a disposal
which is not harmful to the environment.
In the window “Destination Location”, an installation path
will be proposed. Click “Next” to confirm. To install the pro-
gramme on a different path, click “Browse...”, select the tar-
get path, confirm with “OK”, then click “Next >”.
4) Click “Next >” in the windows “Select Components” and
“Start Installation” respectively. In the following window,
click “Finish >” to terminate the installation.

3.2 Battery and connection to the PC
1) Open the battery compartment cover (6) by slid ing it down-
ward. Insert a battery of the type CR2032 with its poles as
indicated in fig. 1. Close the cover.
2) Connect the 3.5 mm plug of the connection cable to the jack
DATA IN (7) and the other plug to a USB port of the PC.
Install the required driver software from the CD, if neces-
sary.

Entering the Main Message into the Name
Badge
The main message can also be entered directly into the name
badge without a PC:
1) Switch on the name badge; for this purpose, set the switch
(5) to the position ON.
2) Keep the button ENTER (3) pressed for 3 sec onds; the first
character will start flashing.
3) Select the desired character with the button UP (2) or
DOWN (4). The set of characters will scroll faster when the
button is kept pressed.
4) Shortly press the button ENTER (3); the next character will
start flashing.
Repeat the steps 3) and 4) until the desired message has been
entered completely. It may contain a maximum of 150 charac-
ters from the ASCII st Ä, ä, Ü, ü, Ö, ö, ß,
€
.
5) To terminate the input, keep the button ENTER pressed for
3 seconds. After the start message has scrolled once, the
main message entered will be shown.

Programming a Message via the PC
1) Start the PC programme “Namebadge\E-Badge” by dou-
ble-clicking the E-Badge icon on the
Windows desktop or
via the
Windows start menu; as a result, the window shown
in fig. 2 will appear.
2) In the field “Com Port” (10), select the port simulated by the
USB driver (e. g. COM 3, try it out, if necessary).

For programming the main message only: In the input field
“Loop” (11), select the number of message repeats from
“1 Time” to “255 Times” or “Forever”.
4) Adjust the scrolling speed with the slider (12) from “Slow -
est” to “Fastest”.
5) Enter the desired message in the input field “Display Mes-
sages” (14). The main message may contain a maximum of
150 characters, the start message a maximum of 80 char-
acters. Below the message field, the “Character Count:”
(15) will indicate the current number of characters.
6) Switch on the name badge; for this purpose, set the switch
(5) to position ON.
7) Click “Transfer” (16) to start transmitting the
main message.
For transmitting a
start message which will scroll once
when ever the name badge is switched on, use the shortcut
CTRL + F9. The window “Set Initial Info” will appear. Click
“OK” to start the transmission.
The transmission progress will be displayed as a bar graph
(13). The transmission is terminated when the message
“Transmission is complete” appears.
Important notes concerning transmission:

If the name badge fails to respond correctly due to a
disturbed transmission or if peculiar characters appear,
switch it off for a short time, then switch it on again: Slide
the switch (5) to OFF and then to ON again. Then transmit
the message once again.
If the name badge still fails to respond correctly, this
may be due to a dead battery: In this case, replace the bat-
tery.

For transmission, a message must at least contain one
character. For “deleting” the start message, simply transmit
a blank.

Memorizing and Loading a Message
1) A message entered in the message display (14) can be
memorized on the PC for later use. For this purpose, click
the floppy disk icon (9), then define and confirm a path and
a file name in the window which will appear.
2) To load a message previously memorized on the PC in the
message display (14) for transmitting it to the name badge,
click the Open icon (8). Select the desired file and confirm.
If there is already a message in the display, it will be
replaced by the message from the file. The transmission of
the message to the name badge is described in chapter 5.

Fastening the Name Badge
For fastening the name badge on your clothes, open the clip
(1) and close it in such a way that the fabric will be clamped in
between.
Note:
Always switch off the name badge after operation [switch
(5) in position OFF], otherwise the battery will be consumed
unnecessarily.

Deinstalling the PC Programme
For removing the LNP-15 software from the PC, proceed as
follows:
1) Start the deinstallation programme “Namebadge\Unwise”
via the
Windows start menu.
2) In the window “Select Uninstall Method” which will appear,
the option “Automatic” is selected. Click “Next >” to con -
tinue the deinstallation.
3) In the following window “Perform Uninstall”, click “Finish” to
terminate the deinstallation. As a result, all programme files
and the links in the system menu and on the
Windows
desktop will be removed.
When deinstalling, all message files memorized by the user will
be preserved.
