Emission Filters
The GenePix 4100A Microarray Scanner can be custom configured with
one or two lasers. Each laser (red and green) includes a matching pre-
installed emission filter.
The GenePix 4100A Microarray Scanner uses an eight-position filter
cartridge. Two positions in the filter cartridge are reserved for the
standard emission filters.
•
Position 1 – red (660 nm to 690 nm; 670DF40)
•
Position 2 – green (558 nm to 593 nm; 575DF35)
These filters are not accessible, however, the remaining six positions
are available for custom filter installation, which can be performed only
at the manufacturing facility.
Each standard emission filter is optimized for the emission spectrum of
the respective dye, designed to reject laser light at OD 8 (optical
density) for each respective laser excitation, and reject broad-spectrum
light at OD 5.
For specific information on custom filters and their applications, refer to
the filter manufacturer’s website.

Custom Filters
The GenePix 4100A Microarray Scanner can be ordered with up to six
pre-installed custom filters, in addition to the two standard filters.
When choosing filters, it is important to match the optical
characteristics of the filter, dye, and laser. The transmission band of the
filter should be centered as close as possible to the emission peak of
the chosen dye, and must be narrow enough to exclude light from the
laser and other dyes, but not so narrow that too many emission
photons are excluded. We recommend you use a reject filter of OD 8 to
eliminate laser excitation.
Several filter options are available. Please contact your sales
representative to obtain a list of available filters. If the filter is not
available, let us know which filter you would like, and it will be ordered
for you and installed into your GenePix 4100A Microarray Scanner. All
filters must be installed by us, as the filter wheel is not user-accessible.
