Brushcutter
l
Modifying the brushcutter may make it unsafe.
Never modify your
brushcutter, except as advised by MITOX® PRO in writing. Use only
MITOX® PRO supplied or approved attachments and repair parts.
l
Damaged or loose parts can break off and injure operator or
bystander.
Always inspect your brushcutter before each use. Check
to be sure the throttle works smoothly and snaps to a closed position
when it is released. Never use a brushcutter with a sticking throttle
lever. Be sure the cutting tool is fastened in place properly and is not
cracked, bent, warped or broken.
l
Tool guard must be in place to prevent injury.
If the guard is out of
position, flying objects or the cutting tool itself can injure the operator
or bystanders. Before each use, check to be sure the guard is
fastened in place properly. Never operate the brushcutter without the
tool guard.
l
Recoil starter rope can injure you if released suddenly.
When
starting the engine, grasp the recoil starter firmly by the grip. Do not
grasp the starter rope itself. Always control the rope during rewind
into the housing. Releasing the starter rope suddenly may allow the
rope to whip around and injure you or damage the recoil starter
mechanism.
l
Wear shoulder harness to avoid injury.
The shoulder harness is
for operator safety. It helps prevent the brushcutter from kicking back
far enough for the cutting tool to injure the operator. Always properly
adjust and use the shoulder harness when operating the brushcutter.
l
Rigid cutting blade can cause “kick back” injury.
Kick back or
blade thrust can occur if a high-speed rotating blade comes in
contact with a hard object, causing the blade to stop or slow
suddenly.
l
The blade may then be forced rearward causing injury to the
operator or loss of control. To reduce this risk, use metal or rigid
cutting blades only on MITOX® PRO brushcutters equipped with
double style handles that provide greater leverage. Brushcutters with
“loop” style handles should be used with flexible, non-metallic line
only. Wear your shoulder harness. Use caution when operating the
trimmer close to slid objects such as trees and fence posts. Use left
side of blade to cut, and do not attempt to cut brush stems larger than
2 cm (3/4 inch).
l
Hard objects can damage the brushcutter or be thrown and
cause injury.
The brushcutter is for cutting grass, brush and wood
only. Before using the brushcutter, clear your work area of hard,
foreign objects such as stones, glass, wire, metal and trash.
l
Proper maintenance is essential for safety.
A well-maintained
brushcutter is safer and operates more efficiently. Regularly check
brushcutter adjustments and replace worn or damaged parts. If
engine idle speed is set too high, the cutting blade will not stop when
the operator releases the throttle. A worn out or damaged muffler can
emit sparks and cause a fire. Increased noise levels can lead to
hearing loss. A dull cutting blade is more likely to snag than a sharp
blade, causing kick back and possible injury. Observe maintenance
schedule in the Owner’s Manual.
l
Store brushcutter safely to prevent fire or equipment damage.
To avoid fuel leakage and fire hazard, always empty the fuel tank and
run carburetor dry before storing your brushcutter. Old fuel can clog
the carburetor and lead to hard starting or poor running conditions.
Store brushcutter in a dry, secure location out of the reach of children.
When transporting brushcutter in a vehicle, take precautions to
secure it against damage from falling over and fuel spillage.
