Fuel  Filter  Service

Clean  the  fuel  filter  element  every  20  hours.

WARNING

Improper  use  of  solvents  can  result  in  fire  or  an  explosion.
Clean  the  fuel  filter  in  a  well-ventilated  area  away  from  sources  of  sparks  or  flame,
including  appliances  with  a  pilot  light.  Never  use  gasoline  or  low  flash  point  solvents  to
clean  the  fuel  filter.

Pick  the  grommet  (1)  out  of  the  fuel  tank  (2),  and  then  remove  the  fuel  filter  assembly  (3)  from
the  fuel  tank  together  with  the  grommet  and  the  fuel  tube  (4)  to  keep  dust  from  entering  into  the
fuel  filter.

l

Clean  the  fuel  filter  assembly  in  a  bath  of  high  flash-point  solvent.

l

Dry  the  fuel  filter  assembly  before  installing.

NOTE

If  fuel  does  not  flow  better  with  the  fuel  filter  cleaned,  replace  the  fuel  filter  assembly  with

new  one.

Spark  Plug  Service

Clean  or  replace  spark  plug  and  reset  gap  (5)  every  50  hours  of  operation.

WARNING

Hot  engine  parts  can  cause  severe  burns.
Allow  engine  to  stop  and  cool  before  checking  spark  plugs  or  other  engine
components.

l

Disconnect  the  spark  plug  wire  lead  and  remove  the  spark  plug.

l

Clean   the   electrodes   (6)   by   scraping   or   with   a   wire   brush   to   remove   carbon   deposits   and

wetness.

Inspect  for  cracked  porcelain  or  other  wear  and  damage.  Replace  the  spark  plug  with  a  new

one  if  necessary.

l

Check  the  spark  plug  gap  and  reset  it  if  necessary.  The  gap  must  be  between  0.6mm  and

0.7mm  (0.024in  and  0.028in).  To  change  the  gap,  bend  only  side-electrode,  using  a  spark
plug  tool.

l

Install  and  tighten  the  spark  plug  to  12~17N  m  (1.2~1.7kgf  m)  then  connect  the  spark  plug

A  breather  passage  is  incorporated  in  the  tank  cap.  If  the  breather  passage  is  clogged,  the  fuel
will  not  flow  into  the  carburetor,  causing  problems  with  starting  or  running  the  engine.  At  the
