Chain adjustment:
Periodic adjustment of the chain drive belt
may be necessary to maintain proper
tension.
If the chain is too loose, it will make a
“popping” noise while accelerating.
Immediate adjustment is required to
retighten the chain, otherwise it may
become permanently damaged.
To adjust the chain:
WARNING:
Disconnect the battery con-
nector before removing the protective
chain cover. Whenever working on or
near the chain, it is highly
recommended that you disconnect the
battery. Refer to the section “How to
replace the battery”. (See page 12,13
for details, steps 1-9)
1)
Remove the chain belt cover (see
page 22 for details, steps 1-3).
2)
Loosen the axle nuts until the axle
can move easily.
3)
Adjust the axle position until the
proper tension is achieved.
4)
Lock
the axle
nuts and
adjust the
wheel
manually
until it is
parallel
and inline with the front axle.To align
loosen one nut and refasten again
until correctly aligned. (Fig 49a &
Fig49b)
5)
Replace the chain cover by
reversing the removal procedure.
6)
Reconnect the battery.
