Replacing the
chain if it "pops
off"
WARNING:
Disconnect the
battery before removing the
protective chain cover.
This will ensure no possi-
bility of the motor or chain
running accidentally while
working in this area.
Refer to page 12, 13
"Replacing the battery" in
this instruction manual for
this operation.
It is possible that under
extreme conditions the
chain may pop off. If this
occurs, the motor will run
but the rear wheel will not
turn under power.
The chain can be replaced
by the following procedure.
1)
Support the bike so that
the rear wheel is not touch-
ing the ground
(Fig. 32)
.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the
bike will not fall over during
this process. Work on a
work bench or in an area
with plenty of space.
2)
Remove the 3 screws
with the screwdriver holding
the chain to the frame
(Fig.
33)
3)
Use a screw driver to
separate the five screws
holding the upper and lower
chain cover pieces
(Fig. 34
& Fig. 35)
.
4)
Place the chain over the
MOTOR sprocket first. Keep
tension on it
(Fig. 36).
5)
Place the chain on the
top of the rear wheel
sprocket about half way
around
(Fig. 37)
.
6)
Carefully rotate the
wheel so that the entire
chain slips back on to the
sprocket.
(Fig. 38)
.
7)
Replace the chain
covers in reverse order.
8)
Reconnect the battery.
