Stress caused in the valve by pipeline vibration can be
reduced by supporting the pipeline properly. Reduced vibra-
tion also helps ensure correct functioning of the positioner.
Servicing is facilitated if the valve needs no support. If
necessary, you can support the valve by the body, using
regular pipe clamps and supports. Do not fasten sup-
ports to the flange bolting or the actuator, see Fig. 9.
3.3
Actuator
The valve closed and open positions are indicated by a
groove at the end of the valve shaft. The groove shows
the position of the segment with respect to the flow
port, see Fig. 10.
If possible, install the valve so that the actuator can be dis-
connected without removing the valve from the piping.
The actuator must not touch the pipeline, because
pipeline vibration may damage it or interfere with its
operation.
In some cases, for instance when a large-size actuator
is used or when the pipeline vibrates heavily, support-
ing the actuator is recommended. Contact Metso’s
Automation business for further information.
3.4
Commissioning
Ensure that no dirt or foreign objects are left inside the
valve or pipeline. Flush the pipeline carefully. Keep the
valve entirely open during flushing.
Check all joints, pipings and cables.
Check that the actuator, positioner and limit switches
are correctly adjusted. Refer to their installation, opera-
tion and service manuals.

SERVICING
4.1
General
The V-port segment valves of this series require no regular
maintenance. However, check the gland packing regularly
for tightness. If the valve should require maintenance for
some reason, then a few simple service measures should
normally suffice. This section outlines the service opera-
tions that can be carried out by the user.
The numbers in parentheses refer to the parts lists and
the exploded views of the valve in Section 10. l

NOTE:
When installing the actuator, make sure that the valve-
actuator combination functions properly. Detailed
information on actuator installation is given in Section
6 or in separate actuator instructions.

CAUTION:
Observe the safety precautions listed in Section
1.8 before starting work!
CAUTION:
When handling the valve or the valve package,
take its weight into account!
NOTE:
If you send the valve to the manufacturer for repair, do
not dismantle it. Clean the valve carefully, including
the inside. For safety reasons, inform the manufacturer
of the nature of the medium when you send the valve.
NOTE:
Always use original spare parts to make sure that the
valve functions as intended.
CAUTION:
Do not dismantle the valve or remove it from the
pipeline while the valve is pressurized!
