5. Allow the system to drain for a minimum of five minutes.
Mercury MerCruiser recommends leaving the drain system
open while transporting the boat or while performing other
maintenance to ensure that all water is drained.
6. For DTS engines, pull the lanyard stop switch (if equipped),
or disable the ignition circuit by pulling the fuse marked
"CD."
7. Crank the engine over slightly with the starter motor to purge
any water trapped in the seawater pickup pump. Do not
allow the engine to start.
8. Prior to launching the boat or starting the engine, close the
drain system by installing the two blue drain plugs.
Draining Water from the Cool Fuel Module
Mercury MerCruiser recommends draining the Gen 3 Cool Fuel
Module if it is equipped with a drain plug.
1. Remove the drain plug from the Gen 3 Cool Fuel Module
and allow the water to completely drain from the module.
2. Inspect the drain plug and the O‑ring for damage. Replace if
needed.
