Introduction of the New A-Class, Model Series 176
Adaptive Brake (ABR)
ABR assists the driver in dangerous situations
which occur suddenly and thus serves active safety.
The well-known system has been adapted to the
new model series and now includes the following
subfunctions:
• Electronic Stability Program (ESP
®
) with
Extended Traction Control (XTC)
• Electronic brake force distribution (EBD)
• Exhaust test, roller dynamometer mode
• Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
• Acceleration skid control (ASR), electronic
traction system (ETS)
• - Brake Assist (BAS)
• Hill Start Assist (HSA)
• Dry braking
• Precharging, depending on accelerator pedal
actuation
• HOLD function
• PRE-SAFE
®
system,
PRE-SENSE function sequence
• Standstill coordinator (SSK)
• Steering assistance
• System fault display
Extended Traction Control (XTC)
The ESP is equipped in all engines with the newly-
developed XTC (Extended Traction Control), which
provides improved traction when accelerating out
of corners. This comes into its own, in particular, in
the powerful engines such as, e.g. the A 250 and
A 220 CDI.
Electric parking brake
The electric parking brake, which is already used in
several model series, is installed as standard on the
new A-Class and acts on the wheels of the rear axle.
It makes use of a brake caliper with electric parking
brake function.
The electric parking brake is operated via the elec-
tric parking brake switch, which is located on the
left of the instrument panel underneath the light
switch.
