Introduction of the New E-Class Coupé, Model Series 207
Fuel supply, gasoline engine
The fuel is delivered to the engine by means of fuel
feed modules which are specially tuned for the
gasoline and diesel engines.
The fuel feed module is located in the fuel tank and
consists of
• Fuel pump
• Swirl pot
• Fuel level sensor
In the gasoline engines the fuel is pumped from the
fuel tank into the fuel distributor (fuel rail) by the
fuel pump according to demand. This is done with
the aid of a pump governor which determines the
quantities in relation to the system pressure. The
fuel systems of the gasoline engines have no return
lines, as the delivered fuel is directed back into the
swirl pot.
Fuel supply, diesel engine
The low-pressure supply to the fuel high-pressure
pump is assured by an electrically driven fuel pump.
The fuel pump is integrated in the fuel feed module,
which is located in the fuel tank.
The fuel supply system includes one feed line and
one return line, and it is via the feed line that the
electrically operated fuel pump delivers the fuel
supply to the high-pressure pump across the entire
engine load range. The surplus fuel is directed back
to the fuel tank via the return line.
