Fuel Reserve W arning Lamp
The fuel reserve warning lamp should
come on when the key is turned to
steering lock position
2
, and should go
out after the engine is running.
If the warning lamp stays on after the
engine starts, or comes on while driv
ing, it indicates that the fuel level is
down to the reserve quantity (9.0 I
[2.4 US gal]).
Coolant Tem perature Gauge
If the antifreeze mixture is effective to
-3 0 ° C (- 2 2 ° F), the boiling point of
the coolant in the pressurized cooling
system of your vehicle is approx.
125°C (257° F) (see also “ Fuels, Cool
ants, Lubricants, etc.” ).
During severe operating conditions
and stop-and-go city traffic, the cool
ant temperature may rise close to the
red marking.
Deceleration Shutoff
The fuel injection process is inter
rupted only during deceleration, if the
driver’s foot is fully removed from the
gas pedal.
Low Engine Coolant Level Indicator
Lamp
The indicator lamp comes on with the
key in steering lock position
2
, and
should go out when the engine is
running.
If it comes on with the engine running,
the coolant has dropped below the re
quired level. If no leaks are noticeable
and the engine temperature does not
increase, continue to drive to the
nearest service station and have
coolant added to the coolant system
(see page 73).
Low W indshield and Headlamp
W asher Fluid Level Indicator Lamp
The indicator lamp comes on with the
key in steering lock position
2
and
should go out when the engine is
running.
If the indicator lamp comes on with the
engine running, the level of the
reservoir has dropped
1/3
of the total
volume. The reservoir should be re
filled with MB Windshield W asher
Concentrate “ S ” and w ater (or com
mercially available premixed w ind
shield w asher solvent, depending on
ambient temperature) at the next
opportunity. The reservoir for the
windshield and headlamp washer sy
stem is located in the engine com part
ment (see page 116).
Outside Tem perature Indicator
The temperature sensor is located in
the front bumper area. Due to its loca
tion, the sensor can be affected by
road or engine heat during idling or
slow driving. This means that the ac
curacy of the displayed temperature
can only be verified by comparison to
a thermometer placed next to the sen
sor, not by comparison to external
displays (i.e., bank signs, etc.).
Adaptation to ambient temperature
takes place in steps and depends on
the prevailing driving conditions (stop
and go or moderate, constant driving)
and amount of temperature change.
W arning!
The outside tem perature indicator
is not designed to serve as an
Ice-W arning-Device and is therefore
unsuitable for that purpose, indi
cated tem peratures just above
freezing point do not guarantee that
the road surface is free of ice.
