AIR CLEANER
A dirty air cleaner will restrict air
fl
ow to the carburetor, reducing
engine performance. If you operate the engine in very dusty areas,
clean the air
fi
lter element more o en than the speci
fi
ed in the
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE.
Inspec

Press the latch tab on the top of the air cleaner cover, and remove the
cover. Inspect the
fi
lter element. Clean or replace dirty
fi
lter elements.
Always replace damaged
fi
lter elements.
Refer to this page for instruc ons that apply to the air cleaner and
fi
lter service.
Reinstall the
fi
lter element and air cleaner cover.
Cleaning
1. Clean the
fi
lter element in warm soapy water, rinse, and allow to
dry thoroughly. Or clean in non
fl
ammable solbent and allow to dry.
2. Dip the
fi
lter element in clean engine oil, then squeeze out all
excess oil. The engine will smoke whenb started if too much
oil is le in the foam.
3. Wipe dirt from the air cleaner body and cover, using a moist rag.
Be careful to prevent dirt from entering the carburetor.
4. Reinstall the
fi
lter element and air cleaner cover securely.
OPERATING THE ENGINE WITHOUT AN AIR FILTER ELEMENT, OR WITH A DAMAGED AIR FILTER ELEMENT, WILL ALLOW DIRT TO ENTER THE
ENGINE, CAUSING RAPID ENGINE WEAR. THIS TYPE OF DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED BY THE DISTRIBUTOR’S LIMITED WARRANTY.
