Carefully refit the spark plug by hand in order to avoid cross threading
6
Once it is in position, tighten the spark plug using a 21 mm (13/16”) spark plug socket NB A
loose spark plug can overheat and damage the engine If the spark plug is overtightened, the
threads in the cylinder cover may be damaged
– A used spark plug that is refitted must be tightened an extra 1/8-/14 turn once it has
been screwed in place
– A new spark plug must be tightened an extra 1/2 turn once it has been screwed inserted
place

STORAGE
• It is very important to prepare storage in the right way in order to keep the engine in good
condition
• The following instructions aim to avoid rust and corrosion and to make it easier to start the
engine when it is to be used again
• If the engine is to be stored with petrol in the tank and the carburettor, it is important to reduce
the risk of petrol fumes being ignited Store the engine in a well ventilated location and not in
proximity to equipment such as boilers, water heaters and drying cabinets Avoid areas where
sparking electric motors or power tools are used
• If possible, avoid storage areas where there is a high level of humidity, which may contribute to
rust and corrosion
• If there is fuel left in the tank, the fuel tap must be set in the OFF position in order to reduce the
risk of fuel leaks Place the equipment so that the engine is level If it is tilted, fuel or oil can leak
out
• Once the engine and exhaust system has cooled, the engine must be covered in order to protect
it from dust If the engine or exhaust system is hot, certain materials may melt Do not use a
plastic sheet as a dust protector If the protector is non-permeable, moisture will collect around
the engine and cause rust and corrosion
