Limbing of felled trees
Check the flexural strain in the branches first.
Make a shallow cut from the compressed side
first, to prevent the branch tearing. Cut off the
branch from the opposite side.
FIG. 19
WARNING!
Branches under tension can spring away
when they are cut.
Trimming
First cut from underneath, and then from
above.
WARNING!

tree or other unstable place. Always
maintain a firm footing and good

FIG. 20
• When sawing, always apply the bumper
spike against the wood before starting
to saw. Press the bumper spike against
the log by pressing on the back handle.
Press the front handle in the direction of
the cut. Keep the bumper spike pressed
against the wood to guide the bar.
The bumper spike improves safety,
reduces vibrations, and means that it
takes less effort to cut logs and thick
branches.
• If there is an obstacle between the
chainsaw and what is to be sawn, switch
off the chainsaw, wait until all moving
parts have completely stopped and put
down the chainsaw. Wear safety gloves
and remove the obstacle. If the chain
needs to be removed, follow the
relevant instructions. Always test the
chainsaw after cleaning, adjusting, filing
and/or replacing the chain. If the
chainsaw vibrates or makes an
abnormal noise, have it checked and
repaired before use.
